If you have a double chin, some people may tell you that you are in good company because famous people like John Travolta have double chins and they were still able to become Hollywood superstars. While this is true, there are other factors to superstardom, and said people probably don’t like their double chin either. So, it’s perfectly normal to be annoyed with this aspect of your face, and its also normal to want to get rid of it.
The first thing you have to do is to determine whether or not you really have a double chin. Every person has a small pocket of fat underneath their chins. With many people, the pocket is slightly visible. With other people, it is not so visible, but don’t be mistaken, it’s still there. If you look in the mirror or are looking at pictures of yourself and you seem to have a double chin try doing the “photograph cure” or a trick all models use. Stretch you head out about two inches, then move it downwards by one inch. Do you still have a double chin that is visible? Try smiling. Does it appear? If you don’t have a double chin after this, that means that the fat stores under your chin are normal, and you are part of the group of people in which it is slightly visible. Remember that models use this technique when posing for photographs, and that it is one of the tricks to looking slim in pictures. That also means that some models have the slightly visible fat underneath their chins.
A true double chin has two possible causes. The first one is age. As you get older, the skin in your body begins to lose elasticity and it can sag. Older people also tend to put on some weight. When you combine slightly sagging skin, and the extra weight, you can have the appearance of a double chin. This can be treated with some double chin exercises to make it smaller, or through plastic surgery. While these solutions can work for you, it is important to remember that it is a part of the aging process, and as you get older it will continue to happen.
If you are not elderly or getting old, however, then your double chin has one cause, and that is excess body fat. Yes, double chins are CAUSED by excess body fat. This means that you are either overweight or were once overweight and you are still carrying around some of that extra fat underneath your chin. If you are overweight, the first thing to do for your double chin is to lose overall weight. As you begin to lose weight throughout your body, your fat stores will start to melt away, and so will your double chin. If you were once overweight and still have a double chin, then you can do some facial exercises that target the double chin. Coupled with the right diet, your double chin should be gone in no time!
Double chins can be very annoying, but there is something that can be done about it. All you need is some dedication and the right attitude!
