A healthy weight loss regimen with proper exercise and proper cutting of daily calories should lead you to lose around two to three pounds a week. Anything faster than that can be too rapid, and can be the cause behind your chubby cheeks. You can calculate if you lost too much weight by looking at your starting weight before the diet and divide it between the number of weeks it took you to lose the excess weight.
For example, if you weighed 150 pounds and you lost 30 pounds in four weeks, that's about 7 pounds a week! At that rate, you would’ve lost too much weight too soon. If you think you may have lost weight too rapidly, begin exercises for your chubby cheeks. You should be able to thin them out in just a few short weeks.
Next question: are you currently underweight? You may be confused because it doesn't make sense that you are underweight and have chubby cheeks, but this is very possible! While overweight people have chubby cheeks because of the excess weight, thinner people's chubby cheeks are probably caused by water retention or a lack of water. Another possibility is that you are underweight because of severe weight loss and the chubby cheeks got left behind despite your rapid weight loss.
If either of these cases are true for you, try getting yourself to a normal and healthy weight first and then attend to your cheeks. If you are naturally underweight (and there are people out there who are), then it's likely you don't have enough water in your system. Drink a lot of water while maintaining a healthy diet, and then do some cheek exercises to help the water thin out your bloated look.
Fourth, do you have an eating disorder? Eating disorders can lead to chubby cheeks. Let's begin with anorexia. In early stages of anorexia, before the severe weight loss, your body is still trying to fight and keep its nutrients. Just like being underweight, this can lead to a bloated look which can be the cause behind your chubby cheeks. In the later stages of anorexia, the cheeks thin out and begin looking gaunt. Though you are thinner, you will look much older because a very thin face will age your skin and appearance.
Bulimia nervosa, the eating disorder in which a person purges after eating large quantities of food, known as binge sessions, can also lead to chubby cheeks. This is true if the method of purging chosen is vomiting. After consistent vomiting, the salivary glands in the cheeks will swell permanently because of how often the glands are overstimulated or irritated. This results in cheeks known as chipmunk cheeks, because they are puffed up similar to a chipmunk's.
