Haircuts!
  • Round: If the oblongs are the longest, the round shaped faces can be the shortest. Because of the roundedness of the face, haircuts and hairstyles for this face need to create angles and an illusion of a longer face. The best haircuts for this type of face shape are the layered cuts that start at the cheekbones and get longer, at least up to the shoulders. Long side swept bangs that connect to the layers also look great because they elongate the face. Never get straight cut bangs as these will make the face seem shorter. If you want to try out a bob, make sure the back is shorter than the front, and that the front area ends past the jawline. When it comes to round face shaped men, volume on top with a side part can give the illusion of a narrower and longer look.
  • Square: The classic beauties. This face shape does not do well with very straight cuts with hard angles or blunt bangs. It makes the face look hard and very angular. Because square shaped faces are so strong, soften the features by framing it with gentle waves. Layered hair goes great with this face shape! Like women, men with square faces will benefit from framing waves, rounded cuts, or hairstyles that are full of volume on top. These will all make the square shape softer around the edges and make the male face seem longer.
  • Triangular: Narrow forehead and a wide jawline means you need to find a hairstyle that opens up your forehead but softens your jaw. This means, no bangs of any sort, and layers that begin at the jawline. Bobs for this face shape should also go past the jawline so as to soften the appearance. You should also try to part your hair down the middle, so as to open up your forehead. For men, triangular shaped faces look great with a scruffy haircut. Volume, waves, or messy layers on top widens the forehead and softens the prominent jaw. Perfect excuse to keep the bed hair all day!

If you decide to color your hair or play around with highlights, be sure to choose a color that complements your complexion and gives you a warm glow. If your hair color and complexion present too much of a contrast, you may end up looking too thin or sickly. Choose lighter highlights around your face to frame your face and give you that glowing look. Again, your salon stylist can give you recommendations.
