When it comes to turkey necks, hairstyles will depend on the severity of the problem. With a minimal turkey neck, perhaps one that is already on its way to shrinking, you can get away with haircuts that simply draw the attention elsewhere. Turkey necks that are still on the relatively large side, however, or turkey necks in which the platysma muscle is prominently separated need haircuts that hide the neck area rather than simply drawing the attention away.
Hiding a turkey neck can be tricky, but not entirely impossible. Be sure you stay away from long straight cuts, even ones that end near the collarbone because this can accentuate the shapes your turkey neck is making. Bobs will also not do well for this kind of fat face problem, nor will hair that is flipped backwards. With turkey necks you almost always have to keep the hair around yourself.
If you have a turkey neck that needs to be hidden, you need to have long hair which is wavy or curly. Preferably, the curls should come down around your neck. You can choose large glamorous curls, soft waves, or tighter “hippy” type curls. For as long as the curls come down on either side of your head, and create a lot of shadow in the neck area, then they are the right kind of curls. Curls create movement and shadow at the same time, and this is why they're great at hiding a turkey neck!
Another option you have is to get a haircut with layers that frame your face, from your eye area downwards towards your collarbone. Make sure all the layers point inwards, and when it comes to your neck area, the layers should sort of wrap around your neck in a semi‐circle. This leaves only the front of the neck visible, near where the Adam's apple is, while the sides of the neck are neatly covered by this cut. This type of cut usually requires a lot of everyday styling though, so that is also something you need to consider.
No matter what kind of fat face problem or fat neck problem you have, and no matter what kind of face shape you have, remember that you can help make this problem less noticeable through a haircut or hairstyle. Whichever style you choose, remember to maintain you hair. Keep your hair as shiny and as beautiful as possible. This is one way people can be distracted. With great hair, you can force them to focus on how pretty your hair is, and how nicely it looks on you more than on your facial fat or your neck fat.
When talking to your salon stylist, don't be afraid to experiment with new cuts or styles. Your salon stylist can be really skilled at helping you get a cut you thought you could never have with simple styling tricks. The more daring you are when it comes to your haircut and hairstyles, the more people will notice you for your hair than your facial fat.
Finally, be sure to ask your salon stylist for advice and tips on how to style your hair on an everyday basis. Make sure that the ways in which you can style it are easy and quick. This will especially come in handy if you need to fix your hair before work every morning. Also, before getting a haircut or agreeing to a final style, ask you salon stylist what you need to do to maintain the hair. Some hairstyles are very specific about which products you will need to use in order to give you the look that meets your requirements in hiding your facial fat or neck fat. If these products that you need to use are too expensive and if the process for styling will take too long for everyday hair, you may want to consider a different style.
