Chubby Cheeks
Babies and young children naturally have chubby cheeks. Sometimes they even have double chins! The chubby cheek trait is characteristic of babies and children, and it corresponds with chubbiness all over their bodies. This is because their bodies are focused on growing and keeping itself warm and protected. Since fat insulates a body and is a store of reserve food and nutrients, babies’ bodies keep a good amount of fat on them at all times so as to make sure the baby can maintain its health.
As the child gets older, they begin to lose the fat because the body begins to focus on other areas of development, such as the bones, muscles, etc., but the chubby cheeks often remain. It is rare for a child to have thinned out cheeks. Usually, this only happens if the child carries a gene, such as high cheekbones, which gives their cheeks a thinner look. However, most children will have chubby cheeks, and they carry this chubbiness into their young teens, and sometimes their late teens. These chubby cheeks are often called “baby fat.”
If you are in your late teens or early twenties and you still have chubby cheeks, you may not have lost your baby fat yet. Our cheeks do naturally thin out as we get older, and sometimes it's just a matter of giving it some time. This doesn't mean you can't start your facial exercises though. The earlier you start, the better it will be for your face. If you're already in your mid or late twenties and you still have the chubby cheeks, then your chubbiness could be caused by something else, and it's definitely time to start your facial exercises.
There are six questions you need to ask yourself when determining the cause of your chubby cheeks. The first one is about your weight. Are you overweight? If you are overweight, your cheeks will be chubby. People usually gain fat all around their bodies, and your face is not exempted. There are some rare people who do gain fat in their bodies, but their faces stay slim, and so their weight is not noticeable, but as mentioned this is rare. If you are overweight, this is the most likely reason behind your chubby cheeks. Lose the extra weight and you will begin losing the chubbiness in your cheeks as well.
The second question to answer is: were you once overweight? When people are overweight and they shed the extra pounds, their cheeks do thin out. However, if they lose the weight too rapidly, sometimes the cheeks don't get a chance to catch up and end up retaining some of the fat. If you are a woman, you will notice this same thing happen to your breasts, which is one of the reasons why once overweight women become thinner but maintain their larger breasts.
