Face Yoga

While on the subject of face and neck exercises, it is important to discuss face yoga as an option. Face yoga has been known to help you contour your face and neck and strengthen your muscles. Through the different positions of disciplining the face and neck muscles, it is able to soften wrinkles and lines, smoothen your skin as well as prevent new wrinkles or lines from forming, giving you a more youthful look. Since face yoga started, it has gotten a lot of positive feedback. People claim that it works well, and that it is also relaxing. It is a great way to release tension from the face.

You can choose to do face yoga exercises as part of your facial exercises, or you can choose to do them afterwards as part of your maintenance exercises. Face yoga need not be done by itself. It can also be incorporated into regular or traditional yoga positions. In the end the choice is yours. What is important is that you are exercising the muscles in your face along with the rest of your body.

Here are some face yoga positions you can try. Remember that as you count the seconds in which you hold each position, take deep and relaxing breaths.

Position One:

1. Seat yourself in a comfortable position, making sure you maintain good posture.
2. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and lift your head up. Swallow hard while keeping your tongue in place.
3. Next, while holding your tongue in position, look left and then move your head upwards. Swallow hard, again keeping your tongue in place.
4. Do the same while looking right.
5. Do each side five times.

Position Two:

1. Look yourself in the mirror.
2. Keeping your forehead smooth, pucker your lips like you're trying to whistle a tune. Hold this position for ten seconds.
3. Next, move your hand towards your lips and press gently on your lips. Fight the pressure of your fingertips with your lips. Hold this position for five seconds.
4. Do this exercise five times.

Position Three:

1. Look at yourself in the mirror.
2. Keeping your forehead smooth, and without moving your eyes or while keeping your eyes at a neutral position, move your lips into a smile.
3. Hold this pose for ten seconds then relax your face and repeat.
4. Do this exercise five times.

Position Four:

1. Look at yourself in the mirror.
2. Keeping your forehead smooth, suck in your cheeks on either side, forming fish lips.
3. Try to smile as wide as you can while keeping the fish lips in place. Hold this position for ten seconds, then relax your face.
4. Do this exercise five times.

Position Five:

1. Look at yourself in the mirror.
2. Keeping your forehead, cheeks, and chin smooth, widen your eyes. Remember there should be no wrinkles on your face as you widen them.
3. Hold this position for ten seconds. Then relax your eyes.
4. Do this exercise five times.
