Though several people have the uncanny ability to pull it off and still look good, the majority of society does not do well when sporting a double chin. Plus, even the people who are able to pull it off will probably look better without it! Unlike chubby cheeks, there are only three questions to answer when it comes to determining the cause of your double chin. Answer these questions, and you can determine what could be causing your double chin. That makes you one step closer to losing it!
The first question is yet again: are you overweight? You will find that a lot of your fat face problems are due to the fact that you've packed on some extra cushioning. If you are overweight or obese, then you are likely to have a double chin. In fact, many double chins are caused by excess body fat. Like the problem of chubby cheeks caused by excess weight, the best way to get rid of your double chin is to lose the excess weight first. Losing overall body fat will also cause you to lose fat in your chin area.
Second, is it genetic? You don't have to do extensive research or look for long lost family members for this one. Every person on earth has a small fat pocket underneath their chin. In some people, the fat pocket is not visible, and they have a very well defined chin area while in other (and most) people this fat pocket is slightly visible. If you are of natural or normal weight, look at yourself in the mirror. Do you have a small visible pocket under your chin? If the answer is yes, do the photographic cure or model pose. Stretch your head out about two inches, and then move your chin downward by an inch then smile. Do you still have the small visible pocket?
If your visible pocket disappears then you are just part of the percentage of people who have a fat pocket underneath their chin which is slightly visible. Whenever you take a picture, practice the model pose so that the fat pocket is not seen in your pictures. Many models, including some super models use this trick to make themselves look slimmer, and to hide their visible pockets of fat. Remember that models do this, which means they have fat there too! However, if your fat pocket does not disappear when you do this pose, then you have an excess of the fat pocket. This means you have a double chin.
The last question to ask yourself is your age. How old are you? Often, as we get older, the fat pocket underneath our chin begins to slowly sag as a result of gravity and the loosening of the platysma muscle. This can result in a more visible fat pocket, giving you a double chin. If this is the case, you will need to strengthen your platysma muscle in order to lessen the sag of the fat pocket.
