Body Types

Beginning with the first classification, the three different body types are the endomorph, the mesomorph, and the ectomorph. These three body types are differentiated in terms of physical appearance and muscle build.

Before discussing the three types, it is important to note and understand that it is very rare for someone to fit the description of a body type perfectly. It's rare to find a 100% ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph. Most people are combination types, but have one type which best describes them. In this case, it is best to follow the exercise and diet that is suited for the type that best describes you.

Endomorphs are people that naturally have soft bodies. This softness is often due to underdeveloped or ill defined muscles or muscle structure. Endomorphs generally have a round or curvy physique, often likened to an hourglass or a pear. This body type very easily gains weight, and sadly has trouble losing weight. People with endomorph type bodies are most prone to being overweight and obese. The body fat often builds up in the lower regions of the body, namely the torso, thighs, buttocks, and hips. Because their torso is roundish, and their limbs are somewhat short in comparison to their bodies, endomorphs appear stocky.

It may sound like it's all bad news for the endomorphs, but there is a good side. If you are a female endomorph and are able to keep a healthy diet and good exercise regimen, your naturally curvy body will make you look really sexy. Remember that the ideal body type is the hourglass body type, where the accentuated curves are alluring. Think Sophia Loren. Male endomorphs can get some good muscle definition while still remaining soft and curvy, just the type of guy women love to cuddle up to!

The second body type is mesomorph. This body type is often said to be the ideal body type by athletic standards. This is because the rectangular shaped body has naturally good posture, as well as mature muscle mass with well defined muscles and strong bones. Mesomorph bodies easily gain weight that is relatively well distributed throughout the body. What's more is that this weight can be easily converted into muscle, given the proper exercise or work‐out regimen. Without proper exercise, though, mesomorphs can end up overweight.

You can spot a mesomorph from their broad shoulders, well defined upper body, and well defined torso with hips that more or less match their shoulder width. Their limbs are also muscular and well defined, making them natural athletes. Most endomorphs, in fact become athletes because they are generally energetic and tend to excel in sports and other physical activities.
